Noctium at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe: A Month to Remember
Greetings, dear readers! Charles here, bringing you another exciting blog post about Noctium’s recent adventures. This time, we’re taking a look back at our memorable journey to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which took place throughout August. Prepare yourselves for an exhilarating ride filled with captivating shows, rain, deep-fried Mars Bars, and, of course, extraordinary theater.
Edinburgh Festival Fringe: A Coventry Takeover
For those unfamiliar with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, picture this: a month-long celebration of arts and culture, featuring thousands of performances across various genres. This year, Noctium was proud to be part of a strong Coventry contingent, joining forces with Strictly Arts, Susie Sillett, Jen Davis, and Paul O’Donnell—all of whom helped put Coventry on the map as the City of Culture for 2021. Being surrounded by such incredible talent made us feel right at home in a city we had never truly experienced before.
Podcast Palooza
During our stay, we documented our experiences by conducting numerous podcasts with a diverse range of artists, discussing their Fringe journeys. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ellie, Sarah, Medea, Holly, Ted, Marlien, Jordan, Rob, Dan, Jen, Suzannah, Corey, and Pip for sharing their stories with us. You can revisit these enlightening conversations here.
Thank You!
We owe a debt of gratitude to the wonderful staff at C Aquila Venue for making us feel welcome during our Fringe adventure. Additionally, we would like to thank the reviewers, donors, audience members, and tweeters for their support. None of what we achieved would have been possible without each and every one of you!
Standout Shows
With over 3,500 shows to choose from, finding the perfect fit can be daunting. Here, Connor, Jessie, and myself share our top picks:
- Connor: The Pianodrome by Sound Mirror – “A plethora of discarded pianos transformed into a unique amphitheater… My best moment of the Fringe.”
- Jessie: Ladykiller by The Thelmas and Garry Starr Performs Everything – “Two outstanding one-person shows that stood out among the masses.”
- Charles: (sorry) by Susie Sillett – “(sorry) beautifully encapsulates the struggles of mid-twenty-something millennials, providing a voice for a frequently misunderstood generation.”
That’s a wrap, Nocta-nauts! Our time at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe was nothing short of magical, thanks to the fantastic people we met and the remarkable artistry we witnessed. Until next time, keep exploring, questioning, and enjoying the wonders of theatre.
